Is a lip lift permanent?
What "permanent" is promising
The word "permanent" is a claim, so ask what the practice means by it and what it has seen over time.
Three meanings of permanent
The claim I quote is "permanent results." Permanent can mean the surgery cannot be undone, or that the look never changes, or that the look lasts a long time. Those are three different promises, and a page can slide between them without saying so.
The claim breaks into questions you can ask:
- What exactly is permanent: the change made in surgery, or how it looks years later?
- What does the practice say can change the look after surgery?
- Does the practice show photos taken long after surgery, with the gap stated?
- Is a repeat or touch-up procedure ever part of the plan?
For comparison with other options, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons ranks lip augmentation options from gloss to surgery and has a separate piece on choosing the best lip enhancement treatment for you. A related technique is described in a surgical method paper on the corner mouth lift. Read each one and note whether it uses the word permanent, and what it means by it.
Checking lasting-result wording
- Write down the practice's exact wording on lasting results.
- Ask the four questions above and record the answers.
- Compare the answers with what those two pieces say about each option.
Permanent until defined
A reader of claims, not a surgeon, wrote these questions, and they are not medical advice. If a source says "permanent" and cannot say what changes over time, treat the word as marketing until it is defined.
