When will I see real results?
Real results, quoted back
Which "real" result is meant
A date from someone who has not examined you is a claim without a basis. The phrase "real results" is worth reading literally. It implies that some results are not real, such as a first look versus a settled one. Ask your surgeon to say which point in time they mean.
Milestones to ask about in the first month
Split the question in two. What does the result look like at each milestone in the first month, and what does it look like at the point your surgeon calls healed? A before and after photo is only useful if it states how long after surgery it was taken. A public health service's page on facelift surgery is a decent second account to hold a clinic's answers against.
The finished result gets described in a different way. A medical encyclopedia's facelift series on results is a short account written for general readers. Look at how it words the result, and note that a general account does not tell you what to expect after your own facelift.
Patient pages differ in how they describe recovery. A hospital system's facelift overview is one to read for any stated recovery time. Note whether that time comes with a source, then hold it against what your surgeon tells you.
The same encyclopedia's entry on eyelid lift covers another operation, but it shows how recovery and expected results get worded, which is a useful comparison for the wording you are given. Your own health also enters the picture. Ask your surgeon whether anything in your history changes the timing or the outcome.
Questions about when a facelift is final
Ask at the consultation:
- When will the early result show, and when do you consider it final?
- Which photos show patients at the point in time you are describing?
- Does anything in my health history change that timeline?
- What would make you say the result did not meet the goal, and what happens then?
Your case after an exam
